Hair transplant in Turkey

A hair transplant moves healthy follicles from the back and sides of your head, where hair resists balding, to the areas that have thinned. Because the moved follicles keep that resistance, they usually keep growing over the long term. In Turkey the procedure is usually done in one day under local anaesthesia, and international patients typically stay in Istanbul for two or three nights.

How a hair transplant works

Every modern technique follows the same principle. Follicles are taken from the donor area at the back and sides of the head, kept in a cooled solution, and placed one by one in the thinning areas at an angle and direction that match your natural hair. What differs between techniques is how the recipient channels are opened and how each graft is placed.

1. Hairline design. Dr. Güder draws your new hairline with you before anything else happens, shaped to your face, age and how your hair loss is likely to progress.
2. Local anaesthesia. The donor and recipient areas are numbed with a needle-free, air-pressure system, so you stay awake and comfortable.
3. Extraction. Individual follicular units are removed from the donor area with a micro-punch smaller than a millimetre.
4. Channel opening or implantation. Tiny channels are opened in the recipient area (FUE and Sapphire FUE), or each graft is implanted with a pen as its channel is made (DHI).
5. Placement and dressing. Grafts are placed, the donor area is dressed, and you go back to your hotel the same day.

Which technique fits you

There is no single best technique. The right choice depends on how much coverage you need, the density of your donor area, your hair type and whether you need to return to work without a shaved look.

After reviewing your photos, Dr. Güder recommends one technique and explains why. If two would work equally well, he tells you that too.

Who is a good candidate?

• Your hair loss has stabilised. Many surgeons prefer to wait until the pattern is clear, which for many men is from the mid-twenties onwards.
• You have a healthy donor area. The number of grafts you can safely give is limited, so it has to cover both today’s loss and future thinning.
• You are in good general health. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders or certain medications are reviewed before you travel.
• Your expectations are realistic. A transplant redistributes hair you already have. It can restore a natural frame and good density, but it does not create new follicles.

Women with pattern thinning can also be candidates after an assessment of the cause of their hair loss.

How many grafts will you need?

Most procedures fall between 2,000 and 5,000 grafts. The number depends on the size of the area to cover, the density you want and what your donor area can supply. Your free hair analysis gives you an estimate, and Dr. Güder confirms it in person before the procedure.
